Converting .mov to .jpeg
is there any way to convert a .mov frame to a stand-alone .jpeg? I had camera on wrong setting and took a movie instead of a still.

Different video players may let you take a screen grab of frame in different ways.
If using Quicktime:
iPhoto has no tool to extract still frame from a video.
What is your iPhoto version and MacOS X version? Early iMovie versions (before iMovie 9) could extract a still frame from a video, but the current iPhoto and iMovie cannot do this.
I am using Aperture's video editor to extract single frames from a video, but it would be bit expensive to upgrade to Aperture just for still frames.
if you do not need full resolution images - just the full screen size, simply view your video in full screen mode, advance the video to the frame you want and take a screenshot with (Shift+Comm+3). This wills save a photo to the Desktop.
Or use the professional version if QuickTime 7, if you have it. File > Export will save a still frame in ".pct" format.
Otherwise you will need third party apps; I have seen MPEG Streamclip recommended for this, but have not used it myself.
Hey Phil0124,
Thanks for the tip! It worked great, except I would add that on an apple keyboard the key-combo to enter screen-capture mode is command+shift+4, as there is no "alt" key on the apple keyboard (except maybe if you count the modified "option" keystroke, which didn't work for this operation). Also, it seemed like once I entered this mode the player controls got out of the way automatically. This trick will make a big difference for me - thanks again!

Sure is. Not all Apple keyboards are the same...
Yes yes I see it there, "alt" smallish and in the upper corner of the "option" key. Nevertheless, it does not work for this function. Terence - you should apply that attention to detail to some of the untouched problems/questions over on my activity log - I'd love the help!
I have a PC with the Windows 10 upgrade (I know...)
After about an hour and a half trying all the suggestions, I tried the old-fashioned way.
It worked. :-)
Thanks for sharing - but exactly what does this have to with iPhoto for Mac where you posted?

Open up the movie in Quicktime Player 7 and stop it at the frame you want to have as a jpeg. Use the key combination of Shift+Command+4 to take a screenshot of the screen.
Note that the resolution of the resulting jpeg file will not be as good as if you had taken a photo instead of a video.
